Erich Birch (Class of ‘02) is in his 13th season as a member of the Texas A&M women’s basketball staff. After serving as an administrative assistant for the program in 2002-03, Birch was promoted to director of basketball operations by head coach Gary Blair.
“Erich is an Aggie who knows how to get things done,” Blair said. “His attention to detail and organization is invaluable to us because he does so many of the little things that are vital to our program.”
His responsibilities include travel planning, managing the budget, ordering equipment and gear, community relations, supervising student managers and practice players and organizing the annual Gary Blair Celebrity Golf Classic. He also assists the coaching staff in practice preparation and oversees the Texas A&M Women’s Basketball Camps over the summer months. Under Birch’s direction, the attendance at basketball camps has increased by more than 100 percent.
Prior to his full-time appointment, Birch spent four seasons (1998-02) as a student manager for the Texas A&M men’s basketball team and served as the head manager during the 2001 and 2002 campaigns. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management with a minor in business in 2002.
Originally from Houston, Birch is a product of Austin Westwood High School in Austin, Texas. He and his wife, Robbie (nee Hoffmann) are the proud parents of two children, Kai (7), and Erich (5). They reside in Bryan and enjoy traveling around the world in their spare time.
