COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M men’s basketball head coach Billy Kennedy visited with members of the media on Monday during the SEC Men’s Basketball Summer Teleconference. Below are some of his thoughts on the summer progress of this team and the upcoming 2014-15 season.

Opening statement…

“First of all, we are excited to have four starters returning - Jordan Green, Alex Caruso, Kourtney Roberson and Antwan Space. They have done a really good job of leading us at this point, along with some of the newcomers. We added transfers in Jalen Jones and recently Danuel House. I really like the work ethic, togetherness and chemistry of our team. I think we are equipped to handle the new preseason schedule and are looking forward to the challenge.”

On the tougher non-conference schedule…

“I thought our team and our program is definitely more equipped with the experience that we have coming back to handle a tougher schedule and our league provided some parameters to help all of us beef it up. I would say a little bit of both. We play five or six BCS teams in the preseason, something that I don’t think has happened at A&M in a long time. That will make it a lot more challenging so we’ve got to be ready. We are hoping to get some of these guys that are more mature, like Jalen Jones and Danuel House. If we can catch a break and have them in the preseason by getting them a waiver, which we are in the process of trying to get, that will help us.”

On Danuel House being eligible for the start of the season…

“You know, it’s going to be a long process. We haven’t heard anything on him, or Jalen. We are closer to finding out his (Jalen’s) situation and if he will miss any games, which I don’t think he should, but unfortunately I’m not making that call. We are in the process of figuring all of that out.”

On former Mississippi State Coach Rick Stansbury joining the program …

“Rick brings a great experience to the program. To be a head coach in the SEC for 14 years, to be involved with conference championships and to know recruiting in this league is something that is going to add a lot of value to our program. He is a great recruiter but he is also an outstanding coach. He brings some experience and success in this league that we didn’t have on our staff before.”
