Kavaliauskas Enjoying Success in Europe

LATVIA – Former Texas A&M men’s basketball standout Antanas Kavaliauskas continues to enjoy professional basketball success in Europe as he recently helped lead VEF Riga to a title in the Latvian National League.

It marks the second championship Kavaliauskas has claimed with Riga. In ULEB Eurocup, which is the second strongest club competition in Europe, VEF Riga made the top 16 and in the VTB United League the club finished in the top eight.

In 12 games of Eurocup play, Kavaliauskas averaged 9.8 points to go along with 4.6 rebounds per game. In the team’s 20 games in the VTB United League, the Lithuanian averaged 9.3 points in addition to 5.5 boards per game.  During play in the Latvian League, the center posted his best offensive output, averaging 10.7 points per game and shooting 67.4% from the field.

The native of Vilnius, Lithuania, played two seasons at Texas A&M (2005-07) where he averaged 9.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per contest and garnered honorable mention All-Big 12 accolades as a senior in 2006-07 while helping lead the Aggies to the Sweet 16.

Last summer, Kavaliauskas became the first A&M men's basketball player to represent his country in the Olympic Games, averaging 4.6 points and 3.2 rebounds in Lithuania’s five games in London.
