CARY, North Carolina – After a 10-day training camp, rising sophomore Nick Banks and rising junior AJ Minter secured spots on the 24-man roster for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team as the squad embarks on a hefty slate in July.

During the seven-game tryout phase, Banks played in six games, including five starts. He ranked third on the squad in hitting with a .348 batting average (8-for-23). He logged one double, one home run and seven RBI.

Minter held opponents scoreless in two relief appearances. He scattered one hit and three walks while striking out three in 5.0 innings of work. He held opponents to a .063 batting average. Minter and Illinois’ Tyler Jay will be the lone left-handers on the pitching staff.

Aggie head coach Rob Childress is serving as an assistant coach for the team. The squad is skippered by Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn with assistance from Pepperdine’s Steve Rodriguez and New Mexico’s Ray Birmingham.

The Collegiate National Team opens a five-game series against Chinese Taipei on July 1 at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. The teams will play again on July 2 at Keeter Stadium in Shelby, N.C., on July 3 at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte, N.C., and on July 4 and 5 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C.

Team USA will then host a three-game set against Japan July 6-8 in Thomasville, Wilson and Wilmington, N.C., before traveling to the Netherlands for Honkbal-Haarlem Baseball Week, July 11-20. Following that tournament, the U.S. will head to Cuba for a five-game friendship series, July 23-27.
