COLLEGE STATION, Texas  – Texas A&M’s Cristina Stancu was named to the SEC Women’s Tennis Championship all-tournament team, the Southeastern Conference announced.

The senior from Romania went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 1-1 at No. 1 doubles with partner Stefania Hristov during the tournament while leading the Aggies to the semifinals for the second consecutive year.

In the quarterfinal match against four-time defending tournament champion and fourth-ranked Florida, Stancu and Hristov overcame a 7-5 deficit to force a tiebreaker against 25th-ranked Kourtney Keegan and Olivia Janowicz. In a match that would determine the crucial doubles point, Florida was at match point, 6-3, in the tiebreaker when the Aggie pair reeled off five consecutive points to win and give A&M the 1-0 lead.

With A&M and Florida later knotted at 3-3, the decisive point came down to the No. 1 singles line, where Stancu would win her 12th consecutive match while posting the highest ranked singles win of her senior season with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over 15th-ranked Brianna Morgan.

The victory equaled A&M’s second highest ranked win in program history, while the Gators failed to reach the semifinals for the first time in the 27-year history of the SEC tournament.

In A&M’s semifinal loss against regular-season champion and third-ranked Alabama, Stancu put the Aggies within a point at 3-2 and won her 13th consecutive match after pulling away for a 6-4, 6-3 victory over 55th-ranked Mary Anne Daines.

Stancu and the Aggies (19-6) now await the NCAA Tennis Selection Show and the announcement of the 64-team NCAA Championship field on Tuesday, April 29. The men’s selection show will begin at 4 p.m., and the women’s selections will be revealed at 4:30 p.m. only on Last year, the A&M women were seeded an all-time high No. 3 and reached the championship match for the first time in school history.
