COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The 11th-ranked Texas A&M women’s tennis team returns to the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center Sunday to play host to Sam Houston State. First serve is at 1 p.m.

The Aggies are 4-2 coming off a 4-2 victory over No. 17 Texas last Sunday to close out the ITA Women’s National Team Indoor Championship in Charlottesville, Va.

SHSU enters the weekend 2-0 with a Saturday match-up against Tarleton State

Head coach Howard Joffe, in his third season at A&M and in the seventh year of his head coaching career, is rapidly approaching two milestone victories. He enters the match against SHSU 49-12 at A&M, needing only one win to reach his 50th victory as the Aggie skipper. In addition, Joffe is nearing the 100th win of his head coaching career and enters Sunday’s match 97-50.

A&M boasts three singles players and two doubles teams in the ITA national rankings released earlier this week. Senior Cristina Stancu is No. 19 in singles with a 19-7 record overall, including 3-3 in dual matches. She and partner Stefania Hristov moved up four spots in the doubles rankings and enter the match No. 18 with a 14-7 overall record.

Saska Gavrilovska moved into the rankings for the first time in her young career, coming in at No. 47. The ranking follows her victory over North Carolina’s fifth-ranked Hayley Carter, marking the highest ranked win by an A&M freshman in school history. Gavrilovska and Hristov, a sophomore, share the team lead with 4-1 records in dual singles matches.

Sophomore Anna Mamalat is No. 103 in singles.

A&M is 7-0 all-time against the Bearkats. The teams last met in 2007 with the Aggies winning 7-0 in College Station. The teams were scheduled to play last season at the Mitchell Tennis Center, but the match was canceled due to extreme wind conditions.

The Aggies will host Baylor, Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. before opening Southeastern Conference play at No. 5 Florida on Feb. 28.
