COLLEGE STATION – Several Aggies have posted impressive wins throughout the summer season, highlighted by Frankie Colunga’s win at the ITA Summer Circuit event hosted at UT-Arlington, Austin Krajicek on the ATP Pro World Tour and Alexis Klegou’s title in Turkey.
Colunga, a College Station native, posted wins over Rodrigo Reyes of Southwestern Christian University, Connor Lafavre of Xavier, Jason Haugen of Washington University of St. Louis, Will Stein of TCU, Barry McLaren of Baylor and David Warren of Rice to claim the summer circuit trophy. Colunga posted a 9-4 record as a freshman last season under Head Coach Steve Denton including a perfect 4-0 in dual matches.
Krajicek advanced to the second round of US Open Qualifying Wednesday afternoon, but fell in three sets to Za Zhang of China. Despite the setback Krajicek has posted a successful summer in singles competition with wins at the ATP Tour Challenger Spotlights hosted in Vancouver, Lexington, Birmingham, Newport, Winnetka and Busan, South Korea. Additionally the Bradenton, Florida native has posted doubles victories at stops at Aptos, Vancouver, Lexington, Newport, Nottingham and Wimbledon in the past two months.
Not to be outdone by Krajicek, fellow former Texas A&M All-American Alexis Klegou captured the tournament title at the Turkey F13 Futures hosted in Antalya – Belconti, Turkey at the Belconti Resort Hotel. With the win Klegou’s ATP ranking went from 889 to 690, after another couple wins on the circuit Klegou claimed his career best ranking of 633.
