ATHENS, Georgia – Texas A&M’s men’s tennis will be well represented at the NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships in Athens, Georgia. Sophomores Harrison Adams and Shane Vinsant will participate in singles action beginning Wednesday, while the tandem of junior Jackson Withrow and senior Junior Ore will play doubles beginning on Thursday.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 21-26 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, the University of Georgia will serve as host.
Adams, the 19th-ranked singles player in the latest ITA rankings, earned the nomination after going 14-8 in dual competitions this spring, primarily on the number one line. The All-SEC first teamer was 5-2 in SEC matches while sporting an impressive 9-7 record against ranked opponents this year. The New Braunfels native will face off against No. 41 Dane Webb of Oklahoma at 5:30 p.m.
Vinsant enters postseason play ranked No. 22 in the poll after earning All-SEC and SEC Tournament MVP honors. Primarily playing the number two line, Vinsant went 8-0 in league matches and was 5-3 against ranked foes. The Keller native will face off against No. 5 Guillermo Alcorta of Oklahoma at 6 p.m.
Ore and Withrow earned their second straight bid to the doubles championship, claiming a 5-8 seed in both appearances. The duo has played all of its matches at the number one doubles lines, going 12-4 this spring including an 9-3 record against ranked pairs. The A&M pair is 3-0 in matches that finished against the top 8 seeds in this year’s NCAA doubles field. SEC duos claimed five of the top-eight seeds in the tournament. The maroon and white clad duo will face Henry Craig and Alex Gasson of Denver, the Pioneers pair is currently ranked No. 67 in the ITA rankings.
