“We had a really good day, starting with a very energetic and solid doubles performance by Jackson and Junior,” Texas A&M head coach Steve Denton said. “We got a lot out of this tournament this weekend.”

Shane Vinsant, the nation’s 56th-ranked player and No. 3 seed in the tournament, defeated Texas’ Lloyd Glasspool, 6-4, 6-3, 6-0, in the quarterfinals and top-seeded Soren Hess-Olesen, 6-4, 6-4, in the semifinals to advance to the championship match. The Keller, Texas, native will face Baylor’s ninth-seeded Diego Galeano at 9 a.m. in the finals on Tuesday.

“I was very pleased with Shane’s mental toughness today in beating two quality opponents from Texas today,” Denton said. “Glasspool and Hess-Olesen played No. 1 and 2 for them last season. They were much improved this fall, but so is Shane. He’s showing more maturity in his game with great serves and just playing a much more aggressive style of tennis, which is paying huge dividends for him. He’s going to need his ‘A-Game’ tomorrow in his matchup against Galeano, who’s going to be a very tough opponent from Baylor.”

In his first season to don the Maroon and White, freshman Tito Moreiras downed the Longhorn’s David Holiner, 6-1, 6-3, in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket before ousting Carlos Arbiza of UT-Arlington, 6-1, 6-3, in the semifinals. Moreiras claimed a victory in the finals after Abilene Christian’s Borja Cortes withdrew due to school commitments.

“I was very excited following Tito’s results today,” Denton said on his true freshman. “He had two of his best performances this fall against Texas’ senior and NCAA doubles runner-up in Holiner as well as a solid outing against one of the top players from UT-Arlington. Tito is buying into our culture and is really benefitting from playing against quality teammates in practice on a day-to-day basis.”

The top-seeded tandem of Junior Ore and Jackson Withrow held serve in their semifinal matchup, besting Baylor’s fourth-seeded duo of Galeano and Mate Zsiga, 8-3, for a berth in the championship match. The third-ranked duo will face off against Texas’ pair of Glasspool and Hess-Olesen on Tuesday.

“Junior and Jackson did a great job of handling Baylor’s heavy pace of groundstrokes while at the net and put together some timely returns to advance to the championship,” Denton said on his top doubles tandem.

Second-seeded Jeremy Efferding was unable to overcome and early deficit against Galeano, falling in three-sets, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, and fifth-seeded Ore lost in straight sets to Zsiga, 6-4, 6-4.
