TULSA, Okla-- Texas A&M sophomore Harrison Adams won his first two singles matches in the main draw on Thursday at the 2013 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships being held at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

In the process, Adams, from New Braunfels, defeated the No. 4 seed in the field Romain Bogaerts of Wake Forest, 6-4, 6-2 to advance to Friday's match against Austin Smith from Georgia.

Adams opened the day with a first-round straight sets victory over senior Malte Stropp from Mississippi State, 6-3, 6-4.

In other first-round action, Jeremy Efferding, from Boca Raton, Florida, dropped a 6-1, 6-1 match to Gonazles Austin of Vanderbilt, but bounced back with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Drew Lied from Michigan State in the consolation draw.

Sophomore Shane Vinsant of Keller, Texas, drew a tough seed facing No. 7 overall seed, Ray Sarmiento of USC who plays at No. 1 for the Trojans. The players went the distance as Sarmiento outlasted Vinsant, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Vinsant moved to the consolation draw to face Clay Thompson from UCLA and Vinsant lost, 6-3, 7-6 (4).

Two Aggie doubles teams are seeded with Junior Ore and Jackson Withrow seeded No. 3 while Vinsant and Adams are seeded No. 8.

Ore is the lone senior on the Aggie squad and is from Gaithersburg, Maryland. Withrow is a junior from Omaha. That Aggie tandem faced a South Carolina duo of Tsvetan Mihov and Thiago Pinheiro and the Aggies were victorius with an 8-4 win to advance to the second round on Friday.

Vinsant and Adams drew the UCLA tandem of Marcos Giron and Mackenzie McDonald in the opening round late on Thursday and dropped an 8-7 (2) tiebreaker and will now move to the consolation bracket.

The singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions from this tournament will receive an automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Nov. 7-10, held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, NY.
