NORMAN, Okla. PING announced its all-region honors Thursday and Texas A&M’s Ben Crancer and Greg Yates were among those honored with selections to the All-Central Region Team.

Yates, a native of Mansfield, Texas, has come on strong this spring to stand out as the Aggies’ top finisher in two of their recent three tournaments, including a second-place showing at the Aggie Invitational in early April followed by a tie for fifth at the SEC Championship in St. Simons Island, Ga.

The third-year Aggie helped the team punch its ticket to the NCAA Championship with a ninth-place showing at last week’s NCAA Raleigh Regional. It stood out as Yates’ fifth top-10 finish of the season, which ties Crancer for the team lead.

Additionally, Yates topped the leaderboard to share individual medalist honors at the Sea Best Invitational (Feb. 3-4), which was held on the picturesque Players Stadium Course of TPC at Sawgrass. Following his performance at the Sea Best Invitational, Yates, who maintains a 72.21 scoring average this season, was named SEC Golfer of the Week.

During his second year at Texas A&M, Crancer has taken huge steps forward on the links as the Kirkwood, Mo., product paces the Aggies with a 72.03 scoring average.

Crancer turned heads this fall when he set a Texas A&M men’s golf record for 54-hole score vs. par at 16-under while claiming individual medalist honors at the Dick’s Challenge (Sept 20-21). Adding to an already impressive accomplishment, the second-year Aggie became the first Texas A&M golfer to finish a 54-hole tournament in less than 200 strokes to garner National Player of the Week recognition from Golf Week on Sept. 23.

The Aggies tee off at the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship on Friday as they make the program’s seventh consecutive trip to nationals.
