COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M men’s golf team was recognized Wednesday as the No. 19 team in the nation when the Golf World/Nike Golf Division I Men’s Preseason Poll was announced.
The list had a Southeastern Conference feel as it featured seven SEC teams, including top-ranked, defending national champion Alabama, No.7 Arkansas, No. 11 Georgia, No. 16 Auburn, No. 17 LSU and No. 18 Florida.
The Aggies return nine golfers from last year’s squad which finished sixth at the NCAA Championship, including junior Ty Dunlap. Dunlap was an honorable mention selection to the Division I PING All-America team following an impressive sophomore season that saw him card an eighth-place individual finish at the 2013 NCAA Championship.
As a team, Texas A&M has been a model of consistent success under 13th-year head coach J.T. Higgins. The Aggies enter the 2013-14 campaign riding the nation’s longest streak of finishing in the top 15 at the NCAA Championship, a feat they have accomplished each of the last six seasons.
Three talented freshmen (Jake Goodman, Dylan Siebenaler and Mickey Werenski) join the mix when the new season gets underway on Sept. 7 as Texas A&M travels to the Atlantic Golf Club on Long Island, N.Y., for a dual match with Yale.
