HOOVER, Ala. — The Southeastern Conference on Wednesday announced the Community Service Team for the sport of men’s golf and Texas A&M was represented by sophomore Ty Dunlap.
The SEC names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.
Dunlap and his Aggie teammates are currently making preparations for the upcoming NCAA Men’s Golf Championship, which will take place at Atlanta’s Capital City Club May 28-June 2.
The 2013 SEC Men’s Golf Community Service Team is as follows:
Tom Lovelady, Alabama (R-Fr., Birmingham, Ala.)
Regularly visits local schools, reading to children and speaking to them on various topics, such as bullying and the importance of staying in school … Participates annually in the University of Alabama’s Halloween Extravaganza … Participates in the Angel Tree Program, which provides Christmas gifts to children of incarcerated parents … Played in six tournaments and 17 rounds as a redshirt freshman with a stroke average of 74.12.
Josh Eure, Arkansas (Jr., Crofton, Md.)
Has participated in Lift Up America, unloading food from a Tyson Foods truck and delivering it to area charities … Has been a part of Feed My Starving Children … Worked with area elementary schools in the Sweat Hogs program, which encourages healthy lifestyles … Donated time at the 7-Hills Homeless Shelter … Also worked at the local dog shelter.
Jackson Beindorf, Auburn (Sr., Vero Beach, Fla.)
Volunteered several times with the Richland Elementary School After-School Program and visited Cary Woods Elementary School to meet students and get them excited about reading … Volunteered at the Downtown Trick or Treat event in Auburn, signing autographs and passing out candy to local children … Read to students at Auburn Early Education Center … A men’s golf representative for the Auburn Student-Athlete Advisory Committee … An Academic Top Tiger.
Tyler McCumber, Florida (Sr., Ponte Vedra, Fla.)
Volunteered with Miracle on Main Street, which provides families the opportunity to shop for presents donated from the local community … By the end of the day at Miracle on Main Street, more than 500 families had been served … Assisted with the J.J. Finley Elementary After-School Program, helping students with their homework and playing sports with the students.
Keith Mitchell, Georgia (Jr., Chattanooga, Tenn.)
Participated in a number of service activities as the vice president of Georgia’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee … Helped oversee Georgia’s efforts in the SEC Together We CAN food drive and assisted with providing donations for the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia … Volunteered with Safe Routes To School for Barrow Elementary School students … Participated in the Soles4Souls shoe drive and the Relay for Life … Helped collect apparel and sports equipment for the Boys and Girls Club of Athens in the Gear for Greatness program … Collected cans and donations for families in need for the Hunger Bowl … Delivered Thanksgiving boxed meals to families in need … Helped collect money for Hurricane Sandy victims and collected toys for the Toys for Tots program … Wrote and mailed Christmas cards to deployed soldiers … A member of the Georgia Athletics Director’s Honor Roll and a 2012 Honorable Mention All-America selection … The 2013 Solms Family Endowed Scholarship recipient.

Smylie Kaufman, LSU (Jr., Birmingham, Ala.)
Volunteered 37 hours to community service work for the 2012-13 academic year … A member of Baton Rouge Soiree, which is a Baton Rouge-based organization formed in 2011 with the goal of raising awareness and research funds for prostate cancer … Helped coordinate the second-annual Blue Ribbon Soiree at the Renaissance Hotel in Baton Rouge for a food and beverage and silent auction fundraiser that raised money to battle prostate cancer … A fixture of the team’s trips to Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital while visiting the children throughout the year … Helped organize the efforts of the LSU Men’s Golf team with the annual Halloween BOOzar and Thanksgiving with the Tigers events … Organized the team’s game station at the Halloween BOOzar in 2012 in the event providing local youth an alternative to trick-or-treating … Helped provide Thanksgiving meals to needy families adopted by LSU’s student-athletes as part of the Thanksgiving with the Tigers event. Ty Dunlap, Texas A&M (So., Westlake, Texas)
Served as the men’s golf team’s representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as well as attending the NCAA Leadership Forum … Was involved in Aggies Can, the nation’s largest student-run canned drive, and Hard Hats for Little Heads, as well as Film on the Field … Has assisted to organize student ticket scanning, a fundraising project for SAAC, and was recently elected treasurer for the Texas A&M SAAC executive team.
Will Snipes, Vanderbilt (Sr., Dalton, Ga.)
Worked with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee, where he served as a mentor to a child in the program, visiting the child each week, helping him with homework and being there to support him in his life … Spearheaded a fundraiser for the organization by his team with Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
