COLLEGE STATION, Texas- Seeking to strike it rich and build upon the success of the spring season, the No. 25 Texas A&M men's golf team is in action in Las Vegas this weekend competing in the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters, hosted by UNLV.
Taking place at the Southern Highlands Golf Club, the tournament will feature 15 teams and be held on one of the "Best Residential Courses," according to GolfWeek. The par-72, 7,510-yard course was also named one of the Top 50 Private Golf Courses and one of the best modern-day golf courses.
"The course is exceptional, but the tournament will test every part of your game," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "If you aren't very tough mentally or if you get frustrated easily, it is going to be brought out on the course. If you've got a really tough team or a really talented team, you have a good chance to win. This tournament will separate the good from the bad."
The Aggies are returning to the links after finishing in a fourth-place tie during their previous outing which took place at Hawaii's Turtle Bay Resort Feb. 20-22. Senior Drew Evans led the Aggies at the event, placing eighth individually. Senior Cameron Peck followed closely behind Evans, tying for ninth.
"Ty Dunlap just got back from shoulder surgery and Hawaii was his first event," Higgins stated. "He was a little rusty but he's improving and chomping at the bit to get back to Vegas. With him playing well and Cameron and Drew stepping up, I think we have the makings of a very solid team."
In addition to Dunlap, Evans and Peck, the Aggies contingency in Sin City will include sophomore Greg Yates and freshman Ben Crancer, who returns to the A&M lineup after playing the SeaBest Invitational at TPC at Sawgrass in early February. Additionally, junior Johannes Veerman will be playing as an individual.
The first round of the tournament will begin Friday morning. Live scoring for the event will be available at GolfStat.com.
