Mel Dumezich is in her first year as a student assistant at Texas A&M, working with the Aggies’ pitching staff. The three-time All-American wrote her name all over Texas A&M softball history books as an outstanding pitcher and hitter.
In the Aggies’ career records, Dumezich ranks 4th in RBI (147), 3rd in home runs (48), 9th in total bases (332), 8th in slugging percentage (.560), 3rd in walks (104), 3rd in wins (104), 3rd in innings pitched (901.2), third in pitching strikeouts (936) and 10th in ERA (2.22). In Texas A&M season records, Dumezich ranks 3rd in home runs (20 in 2012) and 6th in walks (39 in 2012).
Dumezich took Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region honors each of her four years at Texas A&M, was a three-time all-conference honoree and an All-SEC selection her senior year. Dumezich was the No. 15 overall pick in the 2013 NPF Draft and played a season for the Chicago Bandits, throwing a complete-game shutout in her professional debut.
Melissa Dolores Dumezich was born on May 28, 1991 in Chicago, Ill. to parents Milo and Linda Dumezich of Whiting, Ind. She has three older brothers, Anthony, Zach and Jeremy. Dumezich is currently finishing her degree in sport management with a minor in coaching, and plans to become a coach after graduation. She loves dogs and volunteers at a local animal shelter.
