COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Two members of the Texas A&M softball team were named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I All-Central Region team, the NFCA announced Thursday.

Sophomore Mel Dumezich was selected to the All-Central Region first as a utility pitcher, while redshirt junior Natalie Villarreal was named to the second team as a second baseman. This is a second NFCA All-Region honor for both Aggies.

From Whiting, Ind., Dumezich was an All-Big 12 first-team selection this season, leading the conference in overall games for complete games (31) while ranking second in shutouts. In Big 12-only games she topped opponents in both categories. The right-handed pitcher owns a 27-8 record in the circle, with 12 solo shutouts, and has held her opponents to 54 earned runs on the season. Dumezich posts a 1.76 ERA with 235 K's in 214.2 innings pitched. At the plate, she is hitting .244 with 29 hits, four doubles, nine home runs and 25 RBI.

Villarreal, a Frisco, Texas, native, was recently named Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Year and was selected to the All-Big 12 first team. While leading the defense in shutting out 17 opponents and holding them to a 188-run deficit, she headed the offense this season. In the leadoff position, the redshirt junior posted a .346 overall batting average while topping team stats in runs (43), hits (53) and doubles (13) and stealing 10 bases. The second baseman is tied for second in the Big 12 for conference-only games in doubles with six. Villarreal rode a 16-game hitting streak earlier this season and recorded 11 multiple-hit games and seven multiple-RBI games, including two four-RBI games that featured a grand slam by the second baseman.

The No. 16 seed Aggies will host LSU, Sacred Heart and Syracuse in the NCAA Softball College Station Regional this weekend at the Aggie Softball Complex. A&M takes on Sacred Heart Friday at 7 p.m., while LSU and Syracuse will face off at 4 p.m. For more information on Aggie Softball, log on to
