May Begins Tryouts at USA Softball WNT Camp

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Texas A&M softball rising junior Meagan May begins tryouts today in the USA Softball Women's National Team Selection Camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

May will compete with 34 athletes who accepted invitations to the camp for one of 17 spots on the 2011 Women's National Team (WNT) roster, to be announced Friday at 11 a.m. CST. The camp will judge participants based on position drills and exhibition games played throughout the week.

The Spring, Texas, native started in 48 games for the Aggies this season, averaging .311 at the plate with 37 hits, including eight doubles, a triple and 14 home runs. May was selected to the Academic All-Big 12 team and the All-College Station Regional team.

A finalized WNT will compete in six events over the summer in three different countries, including games in front of a home crowd in Plant City, Fla., Salem, Va. And Bowie, Md. The team will play internationally in Canada and Mexico, and will host the World Cup of Softball VI, July 21-25 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
