Alma Mater: Texas A&M '92

Texas A&M athletic department veteran and former track and field athlete Brian Bancroft was named as an assistant on the Aggie track and field staff, head coach Pat Henry announced on July 29, 2005.

"I feel really good about Brian and his ability to help our program," Henry said. "He is a person with the skills we were looking for in hiring for this position. With his history of being a former track athlete, he has a very good understanding of the needs of our program and what we are trying to accomplish."

Bancroft has been a systems analyst for the department for the past four years, serving both in the computing and network support division as well as the internet and special projects office.

He handles a large portion of the administrative duties in regards to the track and field program, including but not limited to scheduling, team travel, recruiting logistics and event management responsibilities.

"It has been a dream of mine to eventually get into coaching," Bancroft said. "In my opinion, Coach Henry and his staff are the best in the country and I have the benefit of learning from all of them. I have had several opportunities to work with Coach Henry in the last year and am very impressed by his leadership and respect for the student athletes, coaches and athletic staff. He is committed to Building Champions on and off the field and I am honored to be part of that."

Bancroft, Class of '92, holds a pair of engineering degrees from Texas A&M. He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1993 followed by a bachelor's degree in computer engineering in 1996. After working as an engineer and consultant, Bancroft joined the Texas A&M athletic department in November of 2001.

As a member of the athletic dept., Bancroft was already been active in assisting the track and field program. He provided technical support for the program for the last four seasons and played a major role in the administration of the 2004 NCAA Midwest Regional and the 2004 U.S. Junior Championships, both hosted by Texas A&M.

As a student at A&M, Bancroft was a member of Squadron 7 in the Corps of Cadets for four years and a Ross Volunteer. He was also active in athletics, serving as a member of the 12th Man football squad in the fall of 1989 and was a decathlete for the track and field team in 1992 and 1993.

"I am very excited at having the opportunity to directly contribute to the success of the track and field program here at A&M," Bancroft said. "I had an incredible experience in competing as a student athlete and as a volunteer with the track program. I am looking forward to giving back what track and A&M athletics has given to me."
