NEW YORK CITY -- While 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel of Texas A&Mwas in New York City last weekend as a repeat finalist, fellow Aggie student-athlete Zoe Alaniz was also being honored by the Wendy’s High School Heisman.

Alaniz, a freshman diver from Ray High School in Corpus Christi, won the prestigious honor in 2012 and served as a presenter for the 2013 award. Among the luminaries at the event were many of the former Heisman Trophy winners, including the only two-time winner of college football’s highest honor, Archie Griffin. Also in attendance was Wendy Thomas, who is the namesake of the Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers franchise, which sponsors the event. The Wendy’s High School Heisman has been presented annually since 1994 to a male and female high school senior who have excelled in athletics, academics and community service.

Alaniz’s motto is “do everything from the heart and inspire others.” Her top achievements from her high school career were graduating as valedictorian of the inaugural class of the International Baccalaureate Program at Ray High School and winning the Texas state championship in diving.

Alaniz has had a strong fall season at Texas A&M and ranks second on the team on both the one- and three-meter springboards. She is already an NCAA zone qualifier on both boards.
