St. Germain, Henry Named Team MVPs

Senior diver Rebecca St. Germain and junior swimmer Sarah Henry earned Most Valuable Player honors as the Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team honored its 2012-13 season at its annual banquet.

The Aggie women were the runner ups at the 2013 Southeastern Conference Championships in their first season in the SEC. A&M went on to finish fourth in the team standing at the NCAA Championships, which matched the highest ever finish for the team and marked the Aggies' seventh straight top 10 finish at the national meet.

St. Germain and Henry accomplished a several team and conference feats on their way to Diving MVP and Swimming MVP honors.

St. Germain became the first Aggie diver to earn SEC honors, being recognized twice as the SEC diver of the week. St. Germain scored 51 individual points in the one-meter and two-meter dives at the SEC Championship. St. Germain’s score of 312.40 on the one-meter earned her the silver medal and she took seventh in the three-meter with a score of 308.25. At the NCAA Championship St. Germain scored 11 points coming in eighth place in the one-meter dive.

 Henry was the runner up in the 1,650 freestyle at the NCAA Championships and also placed sixth in the 400 I.M. and ninth in the 500 free to score a combined total of 39 points with all NCAA ‘A’ time standards. Henry also swam in the 800 free relay which placed fifth. Henry won the title of SEC Champion for the 500 free and 1650 free, and also placed third in the 400 I.M.  Scoring a total of 91 individual points, and earning all NCAA ‘A’ cuts, Henry also helped the 800 free relay to fourth place at the SEC Championships. Henry broke two school records this season, swimming the 500 free in 4:33.07 at the Phil Hansel Invitational and the 1,650 freestyle in 15.45.79 at the SEC Championships.

 Also receiving awards were junior Jessica Macaulay (Most Improved Diver), senior Jordan King (Most Improved Swimmer), senior Meagan Hairston (Iron Woman), senior Maureen McLaine (Aggie Heart), and senior Meagan Hairston (Jody Tanner-Hansen Optimist).

 Being named team captains for the 2012-13 season were: Cammile Adams, Breeja Larson, Henry, and Macaulay.

 The Aggies broke eight school records in 2012-13: 400 Medley Relay( Paige Miller, Larson, Caroline McElhany, Liliana Ibanez, 3:28.93), 500-Yard Free (Henry, 4:33.07), 1,650-Yard Free (Henry, 15:45.79), 100-Yard Back (Paige Miller, 51.55), 200-Yard Back (Tess Simpson, 1:53.20), 100-Yard Breast (Larson, 57.43), 200-Yard Breast (Larson, 2:04.48), 400-Yard IM (C. Adams, 4:01.56).

 Most Valuable Swimmer: Sarah Henry

Awarded to the team member who contributed the most to the success of the team through their respective performances during competition.

Most Improved Diver: Jessica Macaulay

Awarded to the team member who, as voted by the team, improved the most not only with their performances, but with their work habits and commitment to the team goals and values.

Most Improved Swimmer: Jordan King

Awarded to the team member who, as voted by the team, improved the most not only with their performances, but with their work habits and commitment to the team goals and values.

Iron Women Award: Meagan Hairston

Awarded to the team member who the strength and conditioning staff believed performed the most consistent during dry land conditioning.

Aggie Heart Award: Maureen McLaine

Awarded to the team member the coaching staff agreed  best exemplified what it means to be an aggie: Always putting the teams needs ahead of their own while setting a positive example both in and out of the water, and striving to push others to be their best.

Jody Tanner-Hansen Optimist Award: Meagan Hairston

Voted on by the team, awarded to the teammate who always has a positive attitude and helps build her teammates up.
