NCAA Zone "D" has been allocated seven NCAA Championships bids for men's divers and 11 bids for women's divers.
Potvin, Nel and McLean through the Zone diving process previously with Nel making the NCAA cut in 2009 and 2010, McLean in 2009 and Potvin in 2010. Nel has earned three top eight finishes in his two trips to NCAAs, including a bronze finish in the three-meter dive last year. McLean took 16th on the one-meter in 2009, and Potvin had a pair of top nine finishes at the 2010 Championships. Lujan and Thibodaux are veterans of the zone qualification process, but will be seeking their first-ever trips to the NCAA final site.
Below is the rank of criteria utilized to determine the qualifiers for the NCAA Championships; the criteria are utilized until seven men and 11 women are selected. The women's qualifiers will advance to the NCAA Championships in Austin (March 17-19) while the men's qualifiers will compete at the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis, Minn. (March 24-26).
As an example, in accordance to the listing below, if women's diver A wins the one-meter, three-meter and platform events, only one NCAA Championships bid is taken by that diver, and 11 women's bids still remain available. If three separate divers win the platform, one-meter and three-meter events, three bids are awarded and nine remain. Bids are not subtracted from a zone if one diver wins two or more events; the progression down the list of criteria continues until seven male divers and 11 female divers are selected.
