LOS ANGELES, California – The No. 9 Texas A&M Aggies dropped a 3-1 decision against the No. 1 UCLA Bruins in an exhibition match at the North Athletic Field on a Friday evening where both squads were testing new players and player combinations throughout the contest.

The Aggies posted their lone marker of the game in the 69th minute. Facing a 2-0 deficit, Allie Bailey put in a yeoman’s effort muscling through the Bruins’ defense and slotting a pass to Shea Groom who beat UCLA netminder Arielle Schecthman to the right.

The Maroon and White were trailing 2-1 and had a chance to knot the game in the 71st minute when Grace Wright lobbed a pass over the defense and into the penalty box, from 30 yards out, to the feet of Liz Keester. In an enviable position, unmarked 12 yards out, Keester was unable to get the ball past Schechtman with the one-on-one opportunity.

With both teams playing their full complement of field starters in the first 30-minute period, the squads played to a 0-0 draw. The defenses put on a clinic holding the opposing offenses to just three shots (UCLA 2; Texas A&M 1).

The Bruins scored a pair of goals in the second 30-minute period.  With the Aggies putting all four of their freshmen on the pitch, UCLA broke the scoring seal in the 48th minute of action when Megan Oyster scored with assists from Sam Mewis and Lauren Kaskie. The Bruins added a goal in the 55th minute when Kodi Lavrusky used assists from Darian Jenkins and Taylor Smith to give UCLA a 2-0.

The last goal of the contest came in the 84th minute as UCLA was awarded a penalty kick and Mewis put the ball in the right side-netting for the 3-1 advantage.

Texas A&M starts the regular-season on Friday when the Aggies host the Dayton Flyers in a 7 pm contest at Ellis Field.
