COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents today authorized Interim President Mark A. Hussey to negotiate and execute a three-year contract extension for Aggie Soccer head coach G Guerrieri through 2019 at the request of Director of Athletics Eric Hyman.

With his current contract slated to run through March 2016, the new deal will extend the life of the contract 36 months.

Guerrieri, the 2013 SEC Coach of the Year, carried the success of the program into the SEC this season, guiding Texas A&M to a share of the regular-season title and a conference tournament crown in the Aggies’ second campaign in the league.

“Under Coach G’s leadership, Texas A&M entered the SEC and has immediately battled for championships,” said Hyman. “G’s career accomplishments are simply outstanding, and he has been extremely successful in maintaining excellence on the field, graduating his student-athletes and engaging our local community.”

One of the winningest coaches in the history of NCAA Division I soccer, Guerrieri has established Texas A&M as a premier program in the nation. Under his tutelage, Texas A&M is one of only five teams to play in every NCAA Tournament the last 19 seasons, and the Aggies have posted 10 consecutive 15-win seasons. Guerrieri has led the Maroon and White to 12 Sweet Sixteens and four Elite Eights. Texas A&M ranks seventh in NCAA Division I in wins since 2000 with 240.

Guerrieri ranks sixth all-time among NCAA Division I coaches with 372 wins and a .748 winning percentage. He has guided Texas A&M to eight conference regular-season titles and six conference tournament crowns. Guerrieri is a three-time conference coach of the year and three-time NSCAA Central Region Coach of the Year.

“I’ve been blessed to be the soccer coach at Texas A&M,” Coach Guerrieri said. “I am very proud of our incredible student-soccer players and to work alongside such a gifted group of coaches, professionals, and educators  on my staff.  Terri and I absolutely love this community and are so happy to be raising our three kids in Aggieland.  This has always been a labor of love for me, so it’s especially gratifying to know that we’re being supported by Mr. Hyman, the athletic department, and the university by extending my contract again.  I am looking forward to a very bright future as we continue our progress toward Excellence on and off the field with the Aggie Soccer program.”

Guerrieri has firmly established the Aggies as the top squad in the soccer hotbed of Texas, leading A&M to a 19-0-5 record against in-state rivals since the 2008 campaign.

The Aggies have also experienced academic success under Coach Guerrieri. For the third consecutive year, the team earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award, for a squad having a composite GPA of at least 3.0 for all team members who appear on the official NCAA roster for the fall season. Standouts Shea Groom and Meghan Streight also picked up NSCAA Scholar All-America recognition.

The Maroon and White finished the 2013 season ranked No. 8 in the NSCAA Coaches Poll. A&M posted an 18-5-2 record for the year, claimed their first-ever SEC regular-season title with a 9-2-0 league ledger and captured an SEC Tournament crown with a 2-1 win over Florida in the championship match.
