Ana Cruz joined the Texas A&M soccer program this fall after a highly-decorated high school and club career in the San Diego area.

She sat down recently with AggieAthletics.com to talk about transitioning to college and more.

Why did you choose Texas A&M University?
“I chose Texas A&M because it has a great soccer program, great academics and (because) I wanted to get out of California to try something different. (Plus) I wanted (to attend) a big football school.”

What is the most exciting thing you look forward to in your first college season?
“I’m just excited to share these moments with the people around me, and I love playing with girls that I’ve never seen before that are older than me and more experienced.”

What are you expectations for this season?
“I really want to win an SEC championship and obviously a National Championship.”

What would you say are your strengths that will allow you to prove yourself to the team and to the coaches as a true freshman?
“I think that I can think quickly, but I just need to work on turning quicker with the ball so I can use my brain to get the ball to where I want.”

What has been the hardest part about adjusting here? The Easiest?
“I definitely had to adjust to the weather. But after awhile you just get used to it. The easiest would be living on my own.”

What was it like making the transition from playing high school soccer to college soccer?
“(It's) a big transition. The game is a lot quicker and the girls are a lot stronger, but with all the workouts that we do I think that it is easy to get there.”

What are your personal goals for this season?
“I definitely want to score some goals, and (also) win some awards.”
