COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M Soccer head coach G Guerrieri signed a new contract with the university, which was approved by The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents last week, extending his leadership of the team to the end of 2016. The contract is funded through gifts and revenues generated by the Department of Athletics.
Guerrieri (Tulsa '85) finished his 18th season with Aggie soccer in the fall, leading the team to its 11th Big 12 Championship and 16th NCAA Tournament berth. He holds an impressive 303-90-21 record at A&M since the program began in 1993. Under Guerrieri, the Aggie soccer program has earned a spot in the NCAA postseason for 16 consecutive seasons, advancing as far as the Elite Eight four times, and taking 10 trips to the Sweet 16.
"G has done a terrific job building our women's soccer program into one of the very best in the country," Texas A&M Director of Athletics Bill Byrne said. "He has done it with class and integrity and by bringing in quality young people who excel on the soccer pitch, as well as in the classroom and in our community."
With Guerrieri at the helm, the Aggies have been ranked among the top 10 in the nation every year since 1995. Texas A&M soccer has been a constant in the top 25 every week for the past 16 seasons. Guerrieri recently signed 10 high school seniors to national letters of intent, ranking No. 5 among recruiting classes in the U.S.
Guerrieri and his wife, the former Terri Markham, live in College Station with their three children - a daughter, Emily, and two sons, Alan and Conner.
The A&M soccer team continues its spring campaign Feb. 26 as it hosts Guerrieri's alma mater, Tulsa. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at the Aggie Soccer Stadium. For more information on Aggie soccer, log on to AggieAthletics.com.
