COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M soccer player senior Rachel Shipley was selected to the 2010 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) ESPN Academic All-America Team, the organization announced Friday.
From Plano, Texas, Shipley maintains a 3.68 GPA as a finance major and added the All-America third team award to the top of her academic honors this season. She is also a Lowe's Senior CLASS Award finalist and was selected to the ESPN Academic All-District first team and the Academic All-Big 12 first team.
This season the midfielder netted a team second-best and career-high 10 goals, combined with five assists for 25 points. She kicked the game-winning goal against Oklahoma State (Oct. 24) and assisted the game winner vs. Purdue (Sept. 12). Shipley received All-Big 12 first team and Big 12 All-Tournament honors, as well as several player of the week accolades.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale) throughout their career, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at her current institution and be nominated by her sports information director.
