COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Junior Megan Majewski scored a hat trick as the Big 12 Champion Texas A&M soccer team defeated Houston, 8-2, Sunday at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.

"This was another good performance for our small squad in our non-traditional season," head coach G Guerrieri said. "We were able to make tactical adjustments as the game progressed and I was pleased with how our girls embraced the moves. I thought our players played better and better as the game went on and showed a good level of fitness on the night."

The Aggies defeated the Cougars in every aspect of the match, outshooting their opponents 32-9, placing 17 shots on frame vs. four by Houston, and posting a 6-2 corner kick deficit. A&M forced nine saves in the game while grabbing two.

"Houston is coming off their best season, so scoring eight goals against them was a good statement by our young players," Guerrieri said. "It was great to see Megan Majewski get so involved in our scoring, and to do it with a hat trick was really special."

The eight goals by the home team were scored by five different players. Majewski garnered the hat trick with a goal in each of the three 30-minute periods. Junior Merritt Mathias had the first goal of the match, unassisted, and also scored on a direct free kick from 35 yards. The 2010 All-Big 12 selection also added an assist for five total points in the match.

Junior Christina Navalta and Chelsea Jones added tallies of their own. Sophomore Nora Skelton assisted two goals and sophomore Catalina Clavijo and freshman Rachel Lenz had one assist each.

"Merritt and Chelsea each continue to have a great spring campaign, and I thought both of our outside backs (Rachael Balaguer and Lyndsey Gnatzig) had great nights on both sides of the ball," Guerrieri said. "This is a nice way to send the team off on their spring break, and we look forward to our last of our five game dates on Texas State visits us."

A&M will face the Bobcats at the Aggie Soccer Stadium in the last match of the spring season on March 26 at 4 p.m. Admission will be free. Log on to for more information on Aggie soccer.
