The Big 12 Champion Texas A&M Soccer team shut out Tulsa, 4-0, in a spring exhibition match Saturday at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.

“Tulsa played a good game,” head coach G Guerrieri said. “They are a young team and had a lot of their best players from this past fall in their line-up against us. So, it was a good accomplishment of our group to be able to play well, score four goals from a variety of situations, and get a shutout.”

The Aggies outshot the Hurricane 23-5, and led 17-4 in shots on goal. In goal, senior Kelly Dyer grabbed six saves on the match.

Tulsa was forced to make 11 saves, but allowed four goals. Junior Merritt Mathias scored the first goal of the game. Redshirt freshman Kat Bartley put a header in the net, and sophomore Chelsea Jones brought the score to 3-0 with her goal before Mathias buried a second ball for the final 4-0 tally.

“I was pleased with the general level of improvement we’re seeing in terms of possession and speed of play by all our players,” Guerrieri said. “This is an important time of the year for our players and I’m proud of the way they have stepped up to face the challenges posed to date.  This coming Sunday’s match will be another good test. This time we will go against a U of H team who returns most of the players who guided them to their best season in many years.”

Up next, the Aggies host Houston in an exhibition match on Sunday, March 6, at 6 p.m. Admission to the event is free. For more information on Texas A&M soccer, log on to AggieAthletics.com.
