Hill Named Aggie Starting Quarterback

COLLEGE STATION—Texas A&M head football coach Kevin Sumlin announced today that sophomore quarterback Kenny Hill will be the Aggies’ starting quarterback for the season opener against South Carolina, Thursday, Aug. 28 in Columbia, South Carolina. The game will be first collegiate football game televised nationally by the SEC Network with kickoff set for 5:01 p.m. central (6:01 eastern).

“The competition was close and that competition will continue to help us improve,” Sumlin said. “I have talked to both quarterbacks as well as the team and we will prepare with Kenny getting the first-team reps.”

Hill played in four games for Texas A&M in 2013 as a true freshman quarterback. He completed 16-of-22 passes for 183 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 37 yards on seven carries.

Hill came to Texas A&M from Southlake Carroll High School where he was named the Texas Gatorade Player of the Year and Class 5A Offensive Player of the Year throwing for 2,291 yards and 20 touchdowns to go along with 905 yards rushing on 102 carries and 22 touchdowns in 2012.

The other scholarship quarterback competing for the starting job is true freshman Kyle Allen from Scottsdale, Arizona. Allen was the top-rated quarterback prospect in the country and enrolled at Texas A&M in January and went through spring drills as well as summer workouts.
