We congratulate Johnny Manziel on the honor of being a finalist for the Heisman Trophy for the second straight season and on a fantastic 2013 campaign.
Manziel, from Kerrville, Texas, is the only player in college football to rank in the top 10 statistically in passing yards, passing touchdowns, completion percentage, QB rating, yards per attempt, total offense, yards per play and points responsibility. Comparing his 2013 stats to his award-winning numbers from 2012, Manziel has seen improvement in passing yards, QB rating, completion percentage, passing touchdowns and yards per attempt.
Last year, Manziel became the first freshman and fifth player to rush for 1,000 yards and pass for 3,000 yards in the same season. This year, he became the 14th player and only sophomore in NCAA history to hit 2,000 rushing yards and 7,000 passing yards for his career. Manziel did it in the 23rd game of his career. Going into the Chick-fil-A Bowl, Manziel has generated 9,534 total yards, including 2,096 rushing yards and 7,438 passing yards in just 25 career games.
In 2013, Manziel has completed 270-of-391 passes for 3,732 yards and 33 touchdowns, while also leading the team with 686 rushing yards. He averaged 368.2 yards of total offense per game and is one of just seven FBS players to surpass the 4,000-yard plateau in 2013. He had a pair of 500-yard total offense games with 562 vs. Alabama and 502 vs. Auburn.
Congratulations, Johnny. We and fellow Aggies everywhere are proud you are part of the Texas A&M family!
