Sumlin is very familiar with Hagen, who actually served on the same Purdue coaching staff as Sumlin in 2000. Hagen also spent the past two seasons on Kevin Wilson’s Indiana Hoosiers coaching staff. Sumlin and Wilson coached together at Oklahoma from 2003-07.

Noted for his recruiting ability, Hagen was named one of the nation’s top recruiter twice by Rivals.com.

Entering his 18th year as a college coach, Hagen comes to Texas A&M after serving as the Hoosiers’ defensive tackles and special teams coordinator from 2011-12. Hagen added recruiting coordinator to his responsibilities in 2012.

Prior to his two-year stint at his alma mater, Hagen served as an assistant coach at Purdue under Joe Tiller for 11 seasons from 2000-10. During that time, Hagen served a variety of roles as assistant head coach from 2005-08, linebackers coach from 2006-07 and 2009-10, defensive tackles coach from 2000-05 and 2008 and special teams coordinator from 2003-08.

During his stay at Purdue, the Boilermakers earned bowl berths seven times, including the 2001 Rose Bowl and the 2004 Capitol One Bowl.

Hagen’s first coaching job came at Northern Illinois, where he coached the defensive tackles from 1996-99. Prior to coaching, Hagen served as the administrative assistant to the athletic director at Indiana from 1993-96. He served as the liaison between the head football coach and the AD, as well as handing football operations. He also served as a graduate assistant with the Hoosier strength and conditioning program from 1992-93.

Hagen was a four-year football letterwinner for the Hoosiers and was named second-team All-Big Ten linebacker in 1990 and 1991. He served as team captain as a senior in 1991 and was the Copper Bowl Defensive MVP that season. He earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing in 1991 and earned his master’s in sports marketing and management from IU in 1995. An excellent student, Hagen was three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.

Hagen and his wife, Denise, have four daughters: Abby, Emma, Ellie and Ava.
