BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Three Texas A&M football players earned spots on the 2012 Freshman All-Southeastern Conference Team on Thursday.

Gaining spots on the SEC freshman elite squad were wide receiver Mike Evans, quarterback Johnny Manziel and Trey Williams, who made it as an all-purpose player and return specialist.

Evans, a redshirt freshman Galveston Ball High School, led the Aggies with 75 catches for 1,022 yards, which were both freshman records. His 75 catches rank No. 2 in school history and his 1,022 yards rank No. 3 in the overall record book. Evans ranked No. 3 in receptions and fourth in receiving yards in the SEC, and he was the top freshman in both categories. A model of consistency, Evans had four or more catches in all 12 games, which broke Jeff Fuller's school record of 11 straight games with four or more grabs.

Manziel's inclusion on the freshman team is no surprise since he was named the first-team quarterback on the All-SEC teams selected by the Associated Press and by the league head coaches. During the year, Manziel earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week three times and was named Freshman of the Week a record nine times. He broke the SEC record for total offense in a game originally set by Archie Manning of Ole Miss in 1969 with 557 yards against Arkansas and then re-broke his own record with 576 total yards against Louisiana Tech. He went on to break 2010 Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton's SEC's season total offense record with 4,600 yards through Texas A&M's first 12 games.

Williams, a true freshman from Dekaney High School in Houston, Texas, rushed for 335 yards and four touchdowns and had 12 catches for 171 yards from his running back position. As a kickoff returner, Williams gained 522 yards on 23 returns, including a 76-yarder against LSU. His 522 kick return yards rank No. 7 in school history. Williams finished second on the team with 1,028 all-purpose yards, just behind Manziel and ahead of Evans.
