COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M incoming freshman Maddie Szeryk posted a tournament-best round of 65 Tuesday afternoon at the Onion Creek Country Club in Austin to win the Texas UIL 5A Individual Championship and helped Allen High School claim the team title.

The Lady Eagle senior was one stroke off the individual lead after posting an even-par 70 in Monday’s opening round. The Aggie freshman-to-be responded with a five-under performance Tuesday to claim the individual title by two strokes.

“I was really impressed yesterday when I watched Maddie,” Texas A&M women’s golf head coach Trelle McCombs said. “She was very poised and determined. There was a stretch of nine holes where she only had nine putts. I’m proud of her and what she has accomplished and look forward to what she will bring to this team next year.”

As a team, the Lady Eagles shot 286 on the second day of action for a two-day total of 574, 29 strokes better than second-place Lake Travis. Allen previously won state titles in 2005, 2006 and 2012, with the most recent championship also coming at Onion Creek.

Szeryk’s future teammates return to action Thursday, May 8, during the NCAA West Regional, which will be hosted by the University of Washington at the Tumble Creek Club at Suncadia Resort in Cle Elum, Washington.
