BRYAN, Texas – The Texas A&M women’s golf team struggled on day two of the ‘Mo’Morial Tuesday, falling to second place on the leaderboard at the Traditions Golf Club.
Individually, senior Katerina Ruzickova turned in a round of even-par on the day to maintain a tie for second at one-under overall (71-72). Haley Mills (70-72) of Kentucky leads the ‘Mo’ individually at two-under par.
“Kat (Ruzickova) was steady today and her short game was great after all the work she put in this offseason,” Texas A&M women’s golf head coach Trelle McCombs said. “The team did not have a lot of fire in them, but I know we will have it tomorrow. We will come out ready to play and are looking to make a run at the top of the leaderboard.”
As a team Texas A&M (290-304) currently sits in a tie for second with Virginia (298-296), each trailing second-round team leader Kentucky (294-292) by eight strokes with 18 holes to play. Chasing the Aggies and Cavaliers in the standings are UCF (296-300), East Carolina (299-297), Florida State (304-299), Texas A&M ‘B’ (306-307), UTSA (304-310), Rollins College (302-320), Redlands (321-319), Elon (318-328) and UT-Pan Am (334-355).
The second-place A&M unit consists of Ruzickova, senior Chelsea Mocio (71-78, t15), sophomore Alex Neal (77-78, t41), freshman Bianca Fabrizio (76-76, t28) and freshman Thanya Pattamakijsakul (72-81, t32). Ruzickova’s success in the tournament has been due in large part to par-4s where she stands at even-par for the tournament, while Mocio leads the ‘Mo’-field on par-5 scoring at four-under.
The Aggie group currently placed eighth consists of freshman Andrea Jonama (74-72, t6), senior Natalie Reeves (71-76, t8), senior Janell Lysack (79-78, t45), senior Callie Scheffler (82-81, t55) and junior Kirby Kramer (85-84, 62). Jonama currently leads the field with 10 birdies through 36 holes, while Reeves is tied for second most with eight birdies of her own.
Freshman Emily Fuchs (87-88) , playing as an individual, is currently in 67th.
The Aggies will return to the links tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. for a shotgun start.
