Texas A&M Season Comes to a Close at West Regional

STANFORD, Calif. – Texas A&M finished tied for 12th on Saturday at the NCAA Women’s Golf West Regional at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Ca.

The Aggies fired off their best round of the regional with an 11-over par on Saturday. The top eight teams advanced to the finals in Athens, Ga. hosted by the University of Georgia set to begin May 21. With a 300-302-295=897, the Aggies missed the final qualifying spot by eight strokes.

“We played very hard today and competed,” head coach Trelle McCombs said. “Had we came out and played like we did today the first two days we would not be in this situation. All we can do is learn from this and get better for next season.”

Top-ranked Southern California (290-289-280) captured the West Regional championship by one stroke over No. 12 Purdue (291-286-283). Additional teams advancing to the NCAA Championship are No. 7 Vanderbilt (289-289-291), No. 36 South Carolina (296-285-293), No. 14 Stanford (301-284-290), No. 6 Arizona (300-298-291), No. 40 Oregon (292-297-300) and San Jose State (301-304-284).

Teams not advancing were No. 19 Baylor (295-291-304), No. 18 Georgia (296-299-296), No. 25 Pepperdine (303-299-290), A&M, No. 30 LSU (301-300-296), Kent State (302-294-301), No. 37 Ohio State (301-299-299), No. 43 UNLV (310-296-293), No. 32 Denver (299-312-289), No. 48 California (297-312-296), No. 49 Florida State (310-304-295), Harvard (309-305, 299), Miami (307-315-305), Northern Arizona (307-318-315), North Dakota State (309-315-323) and Long Island (322-324-315).

Southern California’s Annie Park (67-71-68) captured the individual crown with her seven-under effort in northern California.

A&M junior Katerina Ruzickova (75-70-75) led the final day charge towards the championships finishing in a tie for 26th-place. Chelsea Mocio (75-76-72) tied for 39th after 54 holes of play, Susy Grunden (73-79-73) was only 16 places behind Mocio in a tie for 55th place. Sarah Beth Davis (77-77-75) and Natalie Reeves (79-82-75) completed the maroon and white contingent in 75th and 102nd respectively.
