RANCHO SANTA FE, California – Junior Katerina Ruzickova paced the Aggie attack finishing in seventh individually, the Aggies stayed at seventh place at the SDSU Farms Invitational in Rancho Santa Fe, California.

Ruzickova finished in the top-10 for the first time this year with her even par 72 on Tuesday (80-70-72=222, +6), just one shot off a three-way tie for fourth place. Sophia Popov of Southern Cal won the individual title at just one-over (74-69-74=217, +1).

“Kat (Ruzickova) played steady golf over the final two days,” Head Coach Trelle McCombs said about Ruzickova’s impressive finish. “She never got ahead of herself and went back to play ‘Kat’ golf. It was a great feeling seeing her get back to playing the way we all know she is capable of.”

The Aggies as a team held onto seventh place with their +22 round of 310 on Tuesday (311-305-310=926, +62). The Women of Troy ran away with the team title at just 11-over after three rounds of play (298-289-288=875). Following USC were Arizona (306-298-292=896, +32), Pepperdine (303-301-300=904, +40), Texas (303-306-301=910, +46), UNLV (302-298-314=914, +50) and Northwestern (305-308-307=920, +56) to round out the top-six.  Behind the Aggies were California (307-310-321=938, +74), Miami (309-309-323=941, +77), South Florida (321-315-312=948, +84), Long Beach State (317-317-316=950, +86), San Diego State (311-316-325=952, +88), New Mexico (317-319-326=962, +98), Michigan (325-331-324=980, +116) and Wyoming (344-320-339=1003, +139).

“The weather was not a factor at all today,” McCombs said about the picturesque course. “It was beautiful all day and we had an opportunity to settle in and maintain our place throughout the day.”

Individually, following Ruzickova the next highest Aggie finisher was senior Sarah Beth Davis in a tie for 23rd (74-79-77=230, +14). Junior Chelsea Mocio (79-75-82=236, +20) finished in a tie for 39th with junior Natalie Reeves (78-81-79=238, +22) two strokes back in a tie for 48th. Senior Mary Michael Maggio (81-82-W) was forced to withdraw from play following Monday’s round due to injury.

“It was unfortunate for Mary Michael to have to withdraw,” McCombs added about Maggio missing from action on Tuesday. “Mary Michael is an integral part of this team and one of the reasons we have seen success this season.”

The Aggies will return to action next weekend (Apr. 12-14) at the PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe, Arizona at the ASU Karsten Golf Course.
