Ruzickova Leads NCAA East Regional, Aggies Fourth

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Texas A&M sophomore Katerina Ruzickova remained at the top of the leaderboard and the 12th-ranked Aggie women's golf team stayed in fourth place after two rounds of the NCAA East Regional at Penn State's Blue Course.

Ruzickova shot a 1-over 73 to take a three-stroke lead into the final round on Saturday. Her two-day total is a 4-under 140. She had 15 pars, a birdie and two bogeys Friday.

The Aggies again carded an 8-over 296 and have a total score of 592, positioning them 10 shots back from leader No. 25 South Carolina (582). No. 2 Alabama is second with 589 and No. 15 Florida is third with 591.

No. 8 Duke posted the low round of the day (293) and jumped to fifth place with 595. Texas (596) is sixth, followed by No. 18 Arizona (598) and Washington (599).

The top eight teams and two individuals from each of the three regionals advance to the NCAA Championship May 22-25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.

No. 5 Arizona State is two shots below the cutline at 601. Other scores are Tulane (603), Campbell (603), No. 24 Michigan State (604), No. 20 Oklahoma State (607), Kent State (607), Augusta State (607) UCF (608), Wake Forest (608), Maryland (610), San Diego State (610), Northwestern (613), Chattanooga (617), Jacksonville St. (618), Oral Roberts (642) and Long Island (645).

A&M junior Mary Michael Maggio is tied for 47th with 151 (74-77). Freshman Patricia Garcia (79-73) and sophomore Natalie Reeves (76-76) have 152s and are tied for 55th, while junior Sarah Beth Davis is tied for 63rd with 153 (79-74).

Garcia was 2-over at the turn, but went 1-under with two birdies and a bogey on the back nine to finish with 73. Davis was 1-under on the front nine with one bogey and birdies on 5 and 9. She went 3-over on the back to card 74.

"We started out great today and just ran out of gas," A&M head coach Trelle McCombs said. "I'm proud of Sarah Beth and Patty. They really came back after a rough start yesterday. We are playing consistently. I think if we keep doing what we are doing, things will work out well for us."

A&M begin its final round at 7:36 a.m. (CT) on Saturday. The Aggies play alongside Duke and Texas and start from hole 10. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
