COLUMBIA, Mo. --- The Texas A&M women's golf team will be seeking its second straight conference title at the 2011 Big 12 Women's Golf Championships Friday through Sunday at the Club at Old Hawthorne.
The Aggies will begin their defense of their 2010 Big 12 Championship when they tee off with Colorado and Oklahoma State at 8:50 a.m. on Friday. Last year the Aggies posted the biggest comeback in Big 12 Championship history by rallying from 11 strokes down to beat second-round leader Oklahoma State by a single shot.
Two key players from last year's rally are back in the lineup for the Aggies - senior Sarah Beth Davis. Davis' final round 3-under par 69 fueled the Aggies' miraculous comeback, and Zwartynski's 10-foot par put on the 54th hole clinched the Championship for the Aggies.
Joining Zwartynski and Davis in the Aggies' Big 12 lineup are three newcomers: sophomore transfer Susy Grunden, freshman Katerina Ruzickova and freshman Natalie Reeves. The Big 12 Championships mark the first time this season that the Aggies have fielded this five-player lineup.
Ruzickova leads the team with a 73.67 stroke average while playing in all 24 possible rounds, and is coming off the first individual win of her collegiate career at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate earlier this month. Rounding out the Aggies' stroke averages are: Davis, 74.56 (18); Zwartynski, 75.17 (24
