AUBURN, Wash. --- The ninth-seeded Texas A&M women’s golf team opened its quest for a spot in the NCAA Championships with a 13-over 301 in the first round of the NCAA West Regional on Thursday at the Washington National Golf Club.
The top eight teams at the West Regional receive a bid to the NCAA Championships that will be hosted by Texas A&M and the Traditions Golf Club May 18-21. After the first day in the Pacific Northwest, the Aggies stand in fifth place, and are looking up at top-ranked USC, No. 6 Virginia, No. 13 Tennessee and No. 22 UC Davis.
“For the most part, we played pretty solid,” Aggie head coach Sarah Beth Davis, who were both veterans of last year’s team that advanced through regionals and went on to an 11th place finish at the NCAA Championships. Zwartynski turned in a 3-over 75 and stands in a tie for 26th, and Davis contributed a 9-over 80 and is tied for 88th. Sophomore transfer Susy Grunden posted a 9-over 81 and is tied for 94th.
The Aggies will be paired with Iowa State and UC Davis for the second straight day in the second round, and will tee off from the 10th hole beginning at 12:20 p.m. (2:20 p.m. central).
