COLLEGE STATION, Texas  – The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents Wednesday authorized Texas A&M University Interim President Mark A. Hussey to negotiate and execute a two-year extension to the contract of Aggie women’s tennis head coach Howard Joffe, as proposed by Director of Athletics Eric Hyman.

“Our women’s tennis team has finished the past two seasons ranked No. 3 and No. 9 in the country, and under Coach Joffe’s leadership, we are positioning Texas A&M for future success,” Hyman said. “Howard is an excellent teacher of the game of tennis, and he does a great job of developing our student-athletes on and off the court.”

In just three seasons as head coach of the Aggies, Joffe has transformed Texas A&M’s women’s tennis program into a national contender, advancing to the finals of the 2013 NCAA Championships. Since arriving in Aggieland in 2011, Joffe’s teams have compiled a 66-17 ledger, while reaching postseason play all three years and winning the 2013 SEC Championship.

“I consider myself to be terribly fortunate to be doing a job and career I love so much at Texas A&M,” Joffe said. “I am super thankful to Marcy Girton and to Eric Hyman for allowing me to continue well into the future. While our program intends to build upon the successes we have enjoyed in the past three years, it is personally such a privilege to be a part of this great University and the exciting trajectory and momentum it exudes.”

Joffe’s existing contract will be extended an additional two years, running through July 31, 2018.

The Aggies, who return six of seven letterwinners from last year’s team that went 21-7 and advanced to the NCAA round of 16, begin their 2014 fall tournament campaign Sept. 12-14 at the Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas.
