COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M women’s tennis team received a No. 10 seed in the 64-team NCAA Tennis Championship bracket and will host first and second rounds May 9-10 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center, the NCAA announced today.

The Aggies (19-6), who are making their 15th consecutive and 20th overall appearance in the tournament, open against Stony Brook (15-3) on Friday, May 9 at 2 p.m. The match follows a first-round meeting between Texas (12-12) and Houston (21-5) to be played at 11 a.m. at the Mitchell Tennis Center.

First round winners will meet in the second round to be played Saturday, May 10 at 3 p.m. at the Mitchell Tennis Center. The second-round winner advances to the round of 16 and the final championship site to be played at the University of Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.

"We obviously don't know too much about our first round opponent other than they are champions of their conference,” A&M head coach Howard Joffe said. “In Houston and in Texas, they are two very strong teams filled with talent. We will need to be ready to perform next weekend.”

A&M, which placed fifth in the Southeastern Conference with a 10-3 record, is an at-large selection and is one of 11 teams in the tournament field representing the SEC. Stony Brook received an automatic berth after winning its third straight America East Championship title. Texas, representing the Big 12 Conference, received an at-large bid, and Houston, which reached the finals of the American Athletic Conference Championship, is making its third tournament appearance in school history and its first as an is an at-large participant.

Last year, the Aggies received a school-record No. 3 seed and advanced to the championship finals for the first time. A&M finished runner-up, narrowly falling to 17-time NCAA champion Stanford, 4-3, in Urbana, Ill.
