COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M Equestrian Associate Head Coach Linzy Woolf has announced the signing of hunter seat rider Alex Desiderio to a National Letter of Intent to compete with the Aggies, beginning in the fall of 2014.

Desiderio (pronounced Des-ih-DARE-ee-oh) is a Chester, N.J., product who will ride in both equitation on the flat and equitation over fences at Texas A&M. In the past year, she has placed ninth at the Pessoa Hunter Seat Medal Finals and eighth at Zone 4 Regionals, and has won numerous national championships on the Arabian circuit.

“We are thrilled to have Alex join our Aggie family,” Woolf said. “Alex has really proven herself as a versatile rider with a competitive mindset through her experience riding and showing a wide variety of horses, which is why we feel she will excel in the NCEA format of riding. Her top-10 placing at the 2013 Pessoa Hunter Seat Medal Finals, along with her other national championship accolades on the Arabian circuit indicate that she has a competitive spark and edge that will help push this team to another championsip.”

The high school senior has followed in her parents’ footsteps, competing on the open circuit like her mother, Stephanie, and on the Arabian circuit like her father, Richard. Desiderio trains with both of her parents, as well as Andre Dignelli and the entire Heritage Farm team. After attending West Morris Mendham High School for her freshman year, she transferred to Penn Foster Online High School where she will finish her degree. Desiderio has three brothers – Michael (23), Anthony (21) and Vincent (9).

The 12th-seeded Texas A&M equestrian team ended the 2013-14 season at the NCEA Championships last weekend for the third-straight year. The team will be back in action at the Thomas G. Hildebrand DVM ’56 Equine Complex in the fall. To learn more about Texas A&M equestrian, log on to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieEquestrian on Twitter.
