BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Texas A&M junior Jordan Szabo and sophomore Shane Vinsant were named to the SEC Men’s All-Tournament Team after the Aggies defeated Florida for the SEC Championship, the league office announced Monday.
Vinsant, a Keller, Texas native, was also named the tournament MVP after going a perfect 5-0 this weekend, winning a pair of singles matches and all three doubles matches. Vinsant and his doubles partner, Harrison Adams, clinched the doubles point for the Aggies against South Carolina to help send the team to the semi- finals and eventually claim the title. The wins extended the sophomore’s winning streak to 12 straight and kept his record against SEC opponents perfect on the year.
Jordan Szabo, of Baywater, Victoria, Australia, played a vital role in the Aggies’ success this weekend, deciding the wins against South Carolina and Florida and sealing the doubles point with Jeremy Efferding against the Gators. The junior was perfect in all of his matches this weekend, winning all of his singles matches in straight sets.
The All-Tournament team is also comprised of Florent Diep and Michael Alford of Florida, Alejandro Gomez of Kentucky and Gonzales Austin of Vanderbilt.
The 2014 NCAA Men’s Tennis Selection Show will be on April 29 at 4 p.m. (CT) and will be broadcast on NCAA.com. The top-16 seeded teams will receive the right to host a regional and the First and Second Rounds at their home site. Entering this week’s SEC Tournament, Texas A&M was No. 11 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
