With the 2014 Major League Baseball season starting in earnest on Monday, four former Texas A&M Aggies garnered spots on opening day 25-man rosters.

Among those starting the season in the big leagues are Brandon Hicks with the San Francisco Giants, Cliff Pennington with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Justin Ruggiano with the Chicago Cubs and Michael Wacha with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Brooks Raley and Alex Wilson are on the 40-man rosters of the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox, respectively.

Hicks is beginning his fourth season in the majors and his first with the Giants. He did not see action in the majors in 2013, spending 95 games with the Triple-A Las Vegas 51s, batting .283 with 57 runs, 12 doubles, four triples, 11 home runs and 49 RBI.

Pennington is beginning his seventh season in the majors and his second with the Diamondbacks. Last season he played in 96 games, primarily at shortstop, batting .242 with 25 runs, 13 doubles, one triple, one home run and 18 RBI.

Ruggiano is beginning his sixth season in the majors and his first with the Clubs. Last season he played in 128 games for the Miami Marlins, batting .222 with 49 runs, 18 doubles, one triple, 18 home runs and 50 RBI as an outfielder.

Wacha is in his second major league season and has been named as Wednesday’s starting pitcher against the Cincinnati Reds. As a rookie in 2013, he was tabbed the NL Championship Series MVP and posted a 4-1 record in the postseason for the Cardinals with a 2.64 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 30.2 innings. During the 2013 regular-season he pitched in 15 games, including nine starts, going 4-1 with a 2.78 ERA and 65 strikeouts in 64.2 innings.

Raley has two years of experience in MLB, pitching in 14 games, including five starts, for the Chicago Cubs in 2012-13. The southpaw will start the season with the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings.

Alex Wilson made his major league debut with the Boston Red Sox in 2013, going 1-1 with a 4.88 ERA in 26 appearances. The right-hander will start the 2014 campaign with the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox.
