COLLEGE STATION – The No. 12 Texas A&M men’s tennis team swept Rice Tuesday evening at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center on the Texas A&M campus in just over 3:30 of hours of action. The Aggies collected win number 16 on the season against only five losses, while Rice fell to 7-10 this spring.

The home team wasted little time capturing the doubles point against the Owls in just over 45 minutes. Freshman Tito Moreiras and senior Junior Ore tallied the first victory for A&M on doubles court three (8-3). The 55th-ranked duo of Harrison Adams and Shane Vinsant clinched the doubles point on court one with a 8-4 win over David Warren and Tommy Bennett.

The maroon and white continued the pressure on the Owls through the beginning of singles action winning the first set on five of six courts. No. 52 Efferding worked quickly to defeat Adam Gustafsson on court three to put A&M ahead 2-0. No. 26 Vinsant claimed a win on court one for the Aggies in straight sets to push the A&M point total to three.

Freshman Max Lunkin clinched the win for A&M on court six with a three-set victory over Gustavo Gonzalez. The Russia native snapped a two match losing streak to put the Aggies ahead four points on Tuesday evening. Shortly after Lunkin’s win, Ore put another point on the board for the maroon and white with a two-set victory that included a 13-11 tiebreaker in the second set that resulted in Ore’s eighth dual victory of the spring.

A&M completed the sweep with wins from Jordan Szabo and Harrison Adams, on courts five and two respectively.

Next the Aggies will host the SEC-leading and seventh-ranked Georgia Bulldogs Friday evening for USTA College Match Day. A collection of activities are planned for Friday evening as the Aggies look to set a new attendance record at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
