PALM CITY, Fla. — After two rounds at the Valspar Invitational, the Texas A&M men’s golf team holds a share of eighth place. The Aggies are eight strokes off the leader, Oklahoma State (-14), going into Tuesday’s final round at the Floridian Golf Club.

“We fought hard today,” Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. “We made some really bad swings at inopportune times that really cost us and didn’t capitalize on the par-5s. Any time we got some momentum going we had something come up that really derailed us, but the guys continued to fight hard and stay in contention. If we can put together a solid round tomorrow we’ll post a good finish in a great field. I liked what I saw today and can say we’re getting better.”

Texas A&M (277-285=562, -6) opened the tournament shooting seven-under par in the first round and one-over in the second round. Sophomore Andrew Lister (68-67=140) turned in the Aggies’ best scorecard, shooting seven-under and four strokes off the leader. The San Diego native is currently tied for fourth.

“Andrew Lister was really solid today with back-to-back rounds,” Higgins added. “He did a terrific job today keeping the ball in play off the tee to give himself a lot of birdie opportunities. I’m really excited for him, he played great today.”

Adria Arnaus (67-73=140, -2) also finished under par for the maroon and white. The sophomore from Barcelona is tied for 19th while senior Johannes Veerman (69-74=143) finished at one-over for the Aggies, notching 24 pars through 36 holes.

Junior Greg Yates (73-72=145, +3, t-52nd) and sophomore Ben Crancer (73-73=146, +4, t-60th) rounded out the Texas A&M scorecard at the event.

Florida State’s Jack Maguire led all individuals in the tournament, shooting a 65 and 66, good for an 11-under mark after the first two rounds.

The Aggies will conclude the tournament Tuesday morning at 8:40 (CT) with the Aggies stepping to the tee box alongside golfers from Tennessee and Florida State. Live scoring for the event will be available at GolfStat.com.
