LAS VEGASPlay concluded at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters on Sunday with the Texas A&M men’s golf team recording a 13th place finish.

The Aggies (321-308-289=918, +54) finished with one of the day’s best rounds at just one-over par to move up the leaderboard two spots during their final turn on the course at Southern Highlands Golf Club. Tournament-host UNLV (289-303-294=886) won the event at 22-over par.

“Obviously, this was a disappointing tournament for us but I’m happy with the way we played today,” Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. “I think today is a lot more indicative of the type of team we are. It feels good to end on a high note, just wish we could have done a little more of that early on in the weekend. We’ll build on today’s round and see if we can do better in Tucson next week.”

Each golfer in the A&M line-up posted his best round of the tournament on Sunday, including junior Greg Yates (77-75-70=222, +6) who was two-under par during the final round to stand as the highest placing Aggie on the individual leaderboard with a tie for 12th place.

Patrick Rodgers of Stanford (74-69-74=217, +1) took home medalist honors.

A trio of Aggies finished with a share of 53rd place as Adrià Arnaus (83-76-73=232), Ben Crancer (81-80-71=232) and Ty Dunlap (80-77-75=232) each finished at 16-over par.

Sophomore Andrew Lister (84-80-80=244, +28) ended play in 78th place while senior Johannes Veerman (80-71-72=223, +7), competing as an individual, finished in a tie for 17th.

“We need to put this weekend behind us,” Higgins added. “This tournament and golf course is unlike anything we’re going to see the rest of the year. It’s really extreme and unlike your typical college golf course.”

Texas A&M men’s golf is back in action on Friday when it travels to Tucson, Ariz., to take part in the National Invitational Tournament.
