COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M equestrian team christened the new Thomas G. Hildebrand DVM ’56 Equine Complex and honored a special senior class Saturday, as the Aggies dropped a narrow 11-9 decision to No. 3 Oklahoma State on Senior Day. With the loss, the Aggies fall to 2-8 (1-5 SEC) on the season, and the Cowgirls improve to 7-3 (3-3 Big 12) on the year.

Competing in their final regular-season event were seniors Caroline Ammons, Lindsey Bernbaum, Laura Brainard, Camilla Cook, Brittany Hildebrand, Shelby Lawson, Alyssa Martin, Paige Russell, Ashley Skold and Ellie Wilkins.

“This was a tough way to end the regular season, but I was proud of the way our riders fought today,” Head Coach Tana McKay said. “Our seniors have shown great leadership over the past four years, and we want to send them off on a good note in the postseason. We had a great fan turnout at the Hildebrand Equine Complex. Our new home is truly the best in collegiate equestrian.”

The Aggies dropped three events to the Cowgirls, though two events were by just one point each. A 4-1 win in reining brought Texas A&M back from a five-point deficit to the final two-point scoring difference.

The Cowgirls took a 3-2 lead after equitation over fences, despite the Aggies coming out ahead in the raw score in over fences. Hannah Williams and Kimmy Saul each had wins in the event, topping their opponents by five and seven marks, respectively.

On the western side, OSU also took a 3-2 win in horsemanship. The Aggies’ effort featured wins from Rachel Lucht and Logan Pluhar. Pluhar’s score of 73.5 was a team high for the event, tied by Ammons who dropped a 3.5-point decision. In exhibition, Carolyn Day topped her competitor, 75.5-68.5.

OSU’s advantage stretched to 10-5 after the Cowgirls took a 4-1 win in equitation on the flat. The Aggies’ lone victory was a 79-78 win by Russell. Haley Buchmiller and Marlena Parker came within one and two points of their opponents, respectively, but couldn’t come out ahead.

The day ended on a high note as the Aggies rode to a 4-1 victory in reining. Bernbaum had the highest score of the event, outscoring her opponent 72-70. Ashley Dotson earned a one-point win, and Hannah Jechow and Laura Sumrall each earned scores of 71.5 as they took wins for the Aggies.

Up next, Texas A&M heads to the Southeastern Conference Championship in Blythewood, S.C., March 28-29. The fourth-seeded Aggies will face No. 1 seed South Carolina in the semifinal round. To learn more about Texas A&M Equestrian, log on to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieEquestrian on Twitter.
