SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Texas A&M women’s golf team put together two solid rounds Monday to place second after 36 holes of the 2014 UC Irvine Invitational at the Santa Ana Country Club.

“The team stayed really patient with themselves throughout the day especially in the afternoon round,” head coach Trelle McCombs said. “We made a lot of good shots that the putts actually didn't fall, so our rounds could have been even better. The first round we were a little anxious at the beginning but settled down nicely.”

The Aggies (+12) trail first-place Stanford by 10 strokes after the first two rounds. Following the Aggies in the standings were Pepperdine (+16), Gonzaga (+22), Long Beach State (+28), UC Davis (+31), Portland State (+38) and host UC Irvine (+40). Rounding out the leaderboard are Hawaii (+41), San Francisco (+42), Nevada (+44), Idaho (+49) and UC Riverside (+51).

Individually, Texas A&M was led by senior Katerina Ruzickova’s one-under performance placing her in a tie for third on the leaderboard. The Czech Republic native tallied seven birdies on the day, second most in the field, and led the field in scoring on par-5s at four-under.

“Kat played so well today and it showed with that under-par number next to her name,” McCombs said. “She was as patient as I've ever seen her on the course. I think she is due for a great round soon.”

Rounding out the lineup for the Aggies were four freshman led by Callie Scheffler and Marijosse Navarro, in her first tournament in the maroon and white, both tied for tenth at four-over par. Sitting in a tie for 12th is Andrea Jonama at five-over. Bianca Fabrizio completes the A&M lineup at 16-over in a tie for 57th.

The maroon and white will return to the link Tuesday morning for a shotgun start paired with Stanford and Pepperdine at 10:25 am (CT). Live scoring is available on golfstat.com.
