Athens, Ga. --- The Texas A&M women’s swimming and diving team scored big points in every event and stands third in the team scoring after two days of competition at the 2014 Southeastern Conference Championships at the University of Georgia.

The Aggies scored at least 54 points in every race of the day, including a whopping 96 points in the 200 IM. Texas A&M scored 57 in the 500 free, 74 in the 50 free and 54 points in the 200 free relay. The Aggies have scored 417 points through two days and trail Georgia (577) and Florida (421). A&M has scored more than 100 points than the fourth place team (Tennessee with 312).

“The whole team swam extremely well,” Aggie head coach Steve Bultman said. “We had a bunch of folks stepping up and swimming faster in the evening than the morning, which is great to see.”

Having perhaps her finest day as an Aggie was senior Erica Dittmer, who logged two top five finishes in the 200 IM and the 50 free and then anchored the 200 free relay. Dittmer was third in the 200 IM with a life-time best 1:55.58 and then became the second Aggie to post a sub-22-second 50 free (NCAA A cut 21.98) while placing fifth. A few minutes later, Dittmer turned in a 21.57 anchor split on the 200 free relay, which was the third-fastest of the day.

“Erica Dittmer was outstanding,” Bultman said. “She had her best 200 IM and then came back in the next race and breaks 22 seconds and then she anchors the free relay-- truly an outstanding day.”

The Aggies opened the meet with a strong effort in the 500 free with senior Cammile Adams taking fourth with a time of 4:35.67 and junior Sarah Henry placing fifth in 4:36.67. Both times were season bests and NCAA A cuts. Sophomore transfer Colleen Konetzke had a lifetime best of 4:44.01 while placing 18th.

In addition to Dittmer’s third-place finish in the 200 IM, the Aggies received big points from sophomore Ashley McGregor (5th, 1:57.49), senior Caroline McElhany (9th, 1:57.58), freshman Sycerika McMahon (1:58.08) and sophomore Meredith Oliver (18th, 1:58.80).

In the 50 free, junior Lili Ibanez was right behind Dittmer and placed sixth in a lifetime best 22.07. Senior Breeja Larson placed 11th in a lifetime best 22.37 and junior Sammie Bosma also had a lifetime best 22.39 while winning the C final.

The Aggies closed the meet with a third-place finish in the 200 free relay with the foursome of Ibanez, Larson, Bosma and Dittmer touching in 1:28.48.
